Latest Update: Sunday, February 24, 2008

Believe it or not, this beautiful photo of ex-Southern Pacific Mogul #1744 was taken last July, in Alamosa Colorado! She's in wonderfully restored, fully operating condition! Who could have guessed that in 2007, a guy would witness an S.P. Mogul, under steam, and pulling a string of passenger cars ?

The SP Class "M-6" Class "Valley Mallets" are due to arrive late summer 2008 !

Four very distinct "O" Scale versions will be offered.

Over time, the S.P. had 440 "Moguls", ("M" Class) Locomotives ! They were second, in sheer numbers, only to the "C" Class 2-8-0's! They could be found all over the system, performing yeoman duty such as in switching service, on peddler freights, and even on occasion in helper service! They were that popular !

It is out of this prodigious number that GPM has elected to reproduce, in "O" Scale, 4 distinctive versions out of the 72 locomotives populating the Espee's "M-6" Class of locomotives. We believe that there is sufficient variety amongst our offerings to satisfy the needs of the diehard S.P. Modeler, the casual operator, and the Collector of Fine Scale Brass locomotives alike.

We invite you to peruse the prototype photos seen below.
1744, This sweetheart still operates today in Alamosa, Colorado on the San Luis & Rio Grande RR.

Our plans include modeling her with a 90-C-2 Tender which she received around 1952, as you see here.
  • GPM-1744-1 - Pre 1946
  • GPM-1744-2 - Post 1946
  • During 1939-1952 Mogul #1767 sported a 70-SC-1 tender. These tenders were former El Paso and Southwestern tenders converted by the SP to oil in the 30's. Eight conversions were done at the Espee's Bayshore Shops and two at Taylor. These totally unique tenders have never been modeled before in any scale, so we figure it's about time. How about you?
  • GPM-1767.1 - Pre 1946
  • GPM-1767.2 - Post 1946
  • Engine number 1785 was one of the few M-6's that received a M-8 "Wagon Top" boiler, as can be seen in this photo.

We will produce her with two different paint schemes.
  • GPM-1785.2 - Post 1950
  • GPM-1785.2-S - Post 1950 w/Silver cylinder heads and running board trim.

  • As always, these "M" Class locomotives are right up there on our list of personal favorites. Not just because they're handsome critters, but also because they don't look out of place on the type of layout most guys can afford the space for in a home environment.

With detailing and a level of operation only dreamed about a few years ago, these models will be created in Lifetime Brass to our specifications by South Korea's Premier Builder of Brass Models, Boo-Rim Precision, for the pleasure of the astute Collector of Fine Hand Crafted Brass Models and the Serious "O" Scale Operator alike !
